Joe Fenech<br />Tru-oiled chambered black korina body with raw bubinga neck, Delano JMVC4 FE/M2 pickups, black Gotoh 201 bridge, black Schaller tuners, black Hipshot 3 string retainer. Tuned Drop C, the sound out of this thing is beefy to say the least! Tone is detailed and bright highend, snappy, bright and punchy midrange and a thick, well defined and powerful low-end that stays tight, focused and well defined. I originally tried running the bass with a Delano Sonar 3 preamp, then with a Nordstrand preamp, but the passive tone from this beast just sounds amazing. Ky S<br />This is the first bass I have built with Warmoth. The neck has a maple shaft a Satine (Bloodwood) fingerboard. IT PLAYS LIKE BUTTAH! The body is an old Squier one. I also upgraded the knobs and changed the pickups to Seymour Duncan Antiquity II. Matthew Guski<br />A Japanese made 62’ reissue fretless neck finished in Mirror Coat epoxy connected to a Warmoth chambered swamp ash body. The finish is trans-black with masked binding. I saw the body on the showcase and fell in love with it. But when I was finally ready to purchase, it had vanished. I emailed Bob at Warmoth and he confirmed that it had been purchased by another customer. To my surprise, my loving fiancée presented it to me on my birthday. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Antiquity IIs and the electronics are custom made passive controls called the Rawsound Varitone ’62. It has 5 different tone capacitors for each pickup selectable by the two lower rotary switches. It is a wonderful instrument; it plays and sounds great. Thanks Warmoth. Candy Red Alder body, Maple neck with Ebony blocked board and matching headstock/Vintage Tint with the new Liam Conlan<br />This is my second Warmoth build, featuring an Ash body finished in my all-time favorite color, Seafoam Green. Purchased from the showcase, along with a Gotoh 201 Bridge. The rest of the build is all Fender, including the neck, tuners and the parchment pickguard. Electronics include Seymour Duncan 1/4 Pounder pickups and CTS pots, including a push/pull pot for series/parallel(by the way, you'll really appreciate Warmoth's deeper control-cavity route if you do this mod), all of which was expertly wired by my Father. It started with a MIM black body which I stripped down and replaced the electronics and the PUPs with Fender summarium noiseless. Gotoh bridge and Schaller tuners. Finished up with D'Addario Chrome flatwounds. Warmoth J-Bass® style neck fit perfectly. Unfinished maple/maple neck coated with wipe-on polyurethane. Plays like butter dipped in liquid Jesus. The back is finished in Transparent Brown, and the top is a gorgeous Light Tiger's Eye dye. I had the neck made, and it is Maple with a fretless Pau Ferro fingerboard. The peghead is Quilt maple with the same Transparent Brown as the back of the bass. Pickups and hardware are pretty much standard issue J-Bass® type. I was looking for a solid bass that could give me some stand-up bass flair, and I got it. I bought the clear pickguard on-line and outlined it in black to give it some definition, but let that stunning finish show through. This is my 2nd Warmoth project, and I can't wait to start a third. So, with wanting to make a somewhat Geddy style bass, off to Warmoth I go. I found a nice J neck in the Showcase with pearloid binding and block inlays. To compliment the neck, I ordered a Dinky J in Sonic Blue, one of my all time favorite colors. To finish the design off, I asked to have the headstock shot to match the body color. Rounding things out, are Bartolini pups and a John East J Retro 01 preamp. This is a really sweet bass, playing fat and happy, with tone every which way you could ever want to go. This bass has an Alder body with Candy Apple Red finish, a maple neck with a Rosewood fretboard, a tortoise shell pickguard and chrome hardware. The pickups are the Basslines Hot Stack for Jazz and an Audere preamp completes the deal. Everything but the preamp came from Warmoth. The bass sounds and plays wonderfully. Luis Martinez<br />Hello people, here's my Warmoth project:<br> Birdseye maple neck finished in clear gloss, Schaller 463 bridge, Schaller tuners, p/j EMG active pickup set, ErnieBall strings, corian nut, Dunlop straplocks. The body was made by me, it's an oak base with a mezquite top, both woods together are quite heavy, I glued both woods together, cut them, and sanded up to 0000 with steel wool, finished with 5 coats of danish oil, I like the warm feel of the wood like this. Thanks Warmoth! Kelin Kreider<br />I had this bass built in 1982 with parts I bought from Musicians Friend. I don't know who made the body or the original neck. It has a Leo Quan Bad Ass II bridge, Grover tuning machines, DiMarzio pickups.<br> When the Jaco article in Guitar Player magazine came out in '86 I had my frets ripped out within minutes. That neck was not up to the task. So, in 1987 I called Warmoth Guitars and ordered a maple/ ebony fretless neck. They said it would be ready in about three weeks. 3 1/2 weeks later I drove down to Puyallup I was living near Seattle at the time. When I got there I found out my neck wasn't finished yet, so, lucky for me they sold me, for the same price, a bubinga/ebony fretless neck. I love the neck and bass, which weighs a ton, has the best sustain, tone, and feel. <br> I also do artwork so in '92 I drew on the back. I would never have done this if was a vintage instrument, but since there were no Fender parts to begin with I did it. In 16 years my bass and art have got me around the world and elsewhere. <br> I am now trying to decide on 5 or 6 strings, what type of woods, finishes, hardware and all for my next bass. I can hardly wait. I started with a Warmoth lightweight premium 1 piece ash Jazz body. It is finished in Shell Pink Nitrocellulose Lacquer, slightly reliced, checked, and yellowed. The bass appears slightly more pink in the photos then it actually is. I also installed a Fender American Vintage Jazz Bass Pickguard, American Vintage Pickup Cover, Bridge Cover, Vintage Bridge, and American Vintage Tuners, all reliced by GR Guitars. The pickups are Fender Custom Shop Vintage Jazz Bass Pickups. The bass includes Fender American Vintage stacked tone and volume pots, vintage caps, with clothe covered wire and brass shielding. <br> <br> I also used a Warmoth Flamed Maple Jazz Style Bass neck with premium rosewood fretboard, Corian nut, and stainless steel frets finished in hand rubbed vintage tinted Nitrocellulose Lacquer with a period correct vintage decal. The fretboard edges have been rolled to simulate age and for comfort of playing. It is strung with LaBella James Jamerson Flatwounds, and is stored in a period correct Blonde G & G Tolex Case. <br> <br> The bass is light at 8 lbs 10 ozs, has a very fast neck, low action, dead on intonation, great balance and sounds and feels, just like a 61 Jazz Bass. In addition, it refuses to go out of tune. When not being played, it is stored in a blonde tolex G & G vintage case. <br> <br> You guys make it possible for almost anyone to build an instrument like this. Warmoth ash and flame maple body finished in clear gloss, and figured birdseye maple neck were from the howcase. They are set off by all black hardware and DR Black Beauty strings. Bridge is Gotoh, Schaller tuners. We loaded it with Sadowsky pups and Sadowsky 9v active preamp with VTC. This bass plays and sounds like a million bucks! Excellent Warmoth and big, fat tone! Chad Haugejorden<br />I had a JRetro preamp lying around along with a set of mid90s EMG jazz pickups. So I decided to make a new bass. Everything is from Warmoth except: bridge, pickups, and preamp. The body is a walnut jazz style body, neck is a reverse Tele®/P Bass® style maple. I chose this reverse headstock due to frequent use of dropped tunings in the rock groups I play with. It plays great and sounds great, the folks at Warmoth do a great job all around. Kudos! All hardware is Fender MIA 62 RI with the traditional stack knob set up. The pickups still in a factory sealed box have been sitting in my parts box for several years waiting for the right moment and this was it. They are 70's vintage NOS DiMarzio J's with Patent Applied For stickers on the bottoms. I didn't want to go with a standard Jazz bridge cover so I used a Precision instead a little less eye filling. It sounds and plays great, and basses with a Shell Pink finish are few and far between!! Another home run! Note: the neck cavity of the Warmoth body required significant modification in order to accommodate this neck and line up the existing screw holes - a full 1/8
The bass is fitted out with Hipshot tuners (including an extender key), a Leo Quan Badass II bridge, DiMarzio UltraJazz pickups and an East J-Retro onboard preamp. The pearloid Warmoth pickguard had to be modified (tediously) due to the enlarged neck pocket, the inclusion of the spoke-wheel nut and to correctly mate with the shape of the standard J-bass control plate.

Looking back, the project required far more time, money and modification effort than I would have ever estimated. Fortunately, I have a truly AMAZING instrument to show for it - can't tell you how many compliments I've received in just the first few days! I first became aware of Warmoth products while searching for a replacement P bass neck for an old lefty Profile I had busted a decade ago. I bought one from the showcase and was very impressed with the quality of the product and the service I received from Eric. So impressed in fact that I decided to build a complete bass from Warmoth parts. I have been buying and playing left hand guitars 'off the peg' for over 40yrs and own 14 or so left hand guitars and basses. So when I discovered you guys and the range of timbers and neck options open to me I just had to build the J bass that I could never find in left handed form. The body is walnut, which I finished with Danish oil and Carnauba wax. I used 400 wet and dry paper to sand-in the first two coats leaving each to dry overnight and prepared each application by rubbing down with oooo steel wool. After letting it cure for a week or so I then applied the wax. I like to melt the wax by standing the can in a pan of boiling water. I then soak a folded pad of lint free cloth (an old Fender T shirt actually) in the wax and keep the solidified pad in a screw top jar to use any time. It makes it much easier than using a new cloth and cold wax every time and saves heaps of time. The birdseye maple neck received two sprayed coats of clear satin Cabothane (poly) and the headstock logo went on between coats. I fitted a Warmoth vintage pearl pickguard, gold Schaller BML tuners, gold Gotoh 201 bridge and a Schaller gold plated brass thumb rest in the old finger brace position. Pickups are Fender original Jazz bass and I did the wiring and set up myself. I specified abalone dots and 6230 frets for the neck and used Fender 55-105 flatwound strings. It plays like a vintage bass but has heaps more life to it and growls and purrs much nicer than my old Fullerton born machine. With a solid walnut body and the modern truss rod arrangement coupled with the chunky nature of the hardware this is no bantam weight but with a wide strap and sensible shoes even an old guy like me can still sneer at 6 string wimps who whinge about their Justin Rickard<br />I built this bass while i was away at my boarding school in Hagerstown as a piece for my portfolio, as i intend to study design in college and plan to go into the music industry. This bass perfectly captures my affinity for vintage style and color theme (even though im only 18, which is why my friends call me a nerd) while remaining original in that i have never seen a competition with a black stripe, or at all for that matter. This bass has an alder body, finished in vintage white with a painted black competition stripe, a gotoh string through bridge, semour duncan basslines pickups, and a black pg with a red pinstripe. It has chrome hardware throughout, except the pg screws are in black to match and blend in. The neck is maple on maple with a vintage SATIN tint neck, which i had to ask for specially, but is really awesome! the vintage white pegface carries on the vintage theme, and i am in the proces of designing my own logo. The neck is SO smooth and sleek, and even unplugged, this thing is a serious monster. This has always been my dream bass, and i thank you for making it a reality! Gordon Bregg<br />My search is over. The fretboard has no dot inlays on the fretboard to keep it as clean as possible I finished the body with 10 coats of pure Tung oil, which gives the body a satin finish. It has a swamp ash body and the color is Lake Placid Blue. The neck is birds-eye maple with a rosewood fingerboard. I also played the extra cost to have the stainless steel frets installed. The pre-amp and pickups are Sadowsky's. This bass sounds and plays unbelievable. The craftsmanship and detail is incredible. This is the second Warmoth bass I put together and plan to do another one soon!! I've played many of the top-of-the-line basses out there and a majority of them don't even come close. If you want a killer bass, I highly recommend that you give Warmoth a try!! Wayne Zito<br />This is a photo of a Wamoth bass body that I recently put together. It is Walnut, my favorite sounding wood for a bass. My experience is that nitrocellulose finishes adhere poorly to Walnut, especially if you want a heavy gloss finish. I used a two part acrylic urethane used for auto bodies. It adheres to anything, and cures hard as a rock. Believe it or not, I got astounding results with a preval sprayer and some hand rubbing. It is now a very shiny and bullet proof assault weapon. I did not find that the heavy finish compromised the sound in any way. These pictures don't really do it justice because of the odd lighting and reflection. Thank you for a very fine product. I have assembled five Warmoth basses since 1988, and each was superb. STRINGS: Rotosound steve harris flats The finish is genuine nitrocellulose lacquer. I started with sanding sealer, then white primer, then gold metallic paint and followed that with many clear coats of lacquer until the final wet sanding and buffing. This method reduces the cloudiness in the finish. The neck is maple and ebony. The hollow body does noticeably enhance acoustics and would go great with a piezo. It is also very light on a strap, making it a joy to play. The electronics are Bartolini single coil J's through passive controls, a very good match with a nice growl. Tino Tedesco<br />Nice and clean, a good live bass with a tremendously punchy Low B string! Brooks <br />I decided to take a plunge and put together my own Warmoth 'Jaco-ish' Bass. About a six weeks ago, a saw a nice, all-wenge J fretless neck in Warmoth's Showcase and went for it. A couple of weeks ago, a nice alder body with qulited maple top popped up in the Showcase. Folks at FenderForum recommended I pair wenge neck with an alder body, so I went for it. I also got a Gotoh 206 bridge, pots and jack, string retainer and some screws from Warmoth. I already had a set of HipShot Ultralights for a Jazz. All parts fit PERFECTLY - a testament to Warmoth's fantastic quality. Neck pocket was absolutely perfect, all holes were drilled where they were supposed to be. Bass is VERY quiet with either pup soloed, treble on full, and my Carvin R1000 on full volume, even when I stand right next to a fluorescent light fixture. I had some trouble with the pups, because they were a bit too big for the routs. When I bought a '75 Jazz, these pups were installed without the covers for the same reason - in other words, Warmoth routing was good, pups were just bigger than they were supposed to be. I had a couple of Fender J pickup covers, so I 'shaved' them all around (the invisible part) until they fit. Warmoth supplied me with CTS pots, dome covers, jack and the cap. Gotoh 206 fit in perfectly and was easy to adjust. My biggest concern was the nut. I used a triangle file to start the groves, then a Dremel with 1mm cutting disc to shape them to size. Strangely enough - it worked! I took measurements off of my Rick Turner Fretless which is also 1.5 Bud <br />I thought you might be interested in a couple of Warmoth axes I've built. I just finished the bass. It started out as a Dinky-J body that I got from your Showcase. It wasn't quite dinky enough for me so I did a little extra carving on the cut-aways and the heel and also at the base of the neck. Don't try this at home kids unless you know exactly what you're doing. It has a standard Warmoth Bass neck, EMG's with their BTC control system, a Hipshot bridge and Gotoh tuners. The pickguard is my own design. It plays & sounds awesome. I built the about 12 years ago. It's got Evans' pickups, which I believe are no longer made. It also plays & sounds great and has held up incredibly well through the years. Both instruments sport cut and polished Krylon paint jobs. Hey....it works. It's an Alder bass body routed for bass pickups and a Single Coil P-bass pickup at the neck. The neck is a maple on maple bass neck with Bass headstock, graphite nut, Schaller BML tuners. I put in DiMarzio Billy Sheehan model Will Power middle P-bass pickups and wired them for dual sound capabilities with a push pull pot. The Single Coil is a Duncan SCPB-1 Vintage '55 and adds a really sweet sound on top of the bass p/u's. (It's also autographed by Green Day's Mike Dirnt). The bridge is a prototype Nickel BadAss II bridge that I was able to purchase direct from Leo Quan & Co via Ebay and warms the tone even more than a regular BadAss II! The finish is a beautiful Tobacco burst thanks to the Warmoth finishing shop. I had to cut the hole for the Single Coil out of the pickguard myself, but it was well worth the time with the dremel. The bass was assembled and set up by the good people at Subway Guitars here in Berkeley, who were at first confused by the pickup combination, but conceded Jason Keller<br />This is my newest addition to my arsenal. It's a Warmoth swamp ash 5-Str Bass body, stained walnut, with a Brazilian rosewood top. The body is finished in lots of tung oil, giving it a beautiful lustre. It has a wenge Warmoth peghead neck with a fretless pau ferro fretboard. I used all gold hardware, including a brass nut blank that I shaped and installed. This is the first bass that I've constructed, and I must say that I am absolutely amazed at the craftmanship of the neck and body.Unamplified, it has sustain and mwah like you would not believe. The beauty of the Brazilian top alone was worth the purchase! Jeff Davis<br />This is a photo of my Warmoth project bass. The body is a mahogany style, ordered painted in Sonic Blue. The neck is wenge from the Showcase. The electronics are a Basslines MM pickup with active preamp. The goal was a bass that sounded like a Super Stingray (and it does), but looked like a clean, sparse looking bass. I couldn't resist having it painted in acres of baby blue. The parts fit together great, with no fitting problems. The body was shipped in a foam slipcase, and arrived without a mark. These guys were great to work with. Joe Meyer<br />I just finished my 5th Warmoth Bass. The body has a 5A quilted top with a black accent line transitioning to the swamp ash core. The body was finished clear (no tint) by Warmoth and it looks beautiful! It's buffed to a glass like finish and is absolutely flawless! I installed Bassline electronics in the bass. I chose a at the neck position (SJB-1N) and a Musicman at the bridge position (SMB-4D). I installed the STC-3 Bassline pre-amp with a master volume (push/pull pot for slap tone), pick-up blend, mid-range boost/cut, & bass/treble boost/cut on a concentric pot. I also added the on/on/on switch to allow parallel/series/split sounds on the MM. The bridge is a black ABM that utilizes allen screws to adjust intonation in lieu of the normal screw/spring design. I highly recommend this bridge! The neck is made from birdseye maple with a Pao Ferro fingerboard. I finished it with approx. 14 coats of polymerized. I originally wanted to purchase a Musicman Stingray, but after playing several, felt that I would be able to get more sounds with a mounted in the neck position. I tried a Lakland 4-string with the pick-up configuration and loved the sound, but thought it was very over priced and wasn't crazy about the neck and fret job (the frets were dressed badly and notes buzzed all over the finger board). I e-mailed Basslines and asked for some help in choosing the pick-ups and electronics and they were extremely helpful. I couldn't be happier with their recommendation! The slap tone is huge and the electronics allow you to fine tune several other great sounds without ever touching your amp. The pre-amp is also very quiet. Bottom line: Another very satisfied Warmoth purchase! Kevin Johnson<br />This is the first instrument I've built. The neck and body were carved and painted by Warmoth. It has an ash body with a AAA quilted maple top. The neck is maple with pau ferro and has a quilted maple headstock laminate. The neck and body are both finished in a cherry sunburst. The pickups are a Duncan Quarter-Pound Bass and a Duncan Alnico Music Man humbucker. I also used Duncan's 3 band tone circuit. I added a coil tap switch for the humbucker and an passive/active switch. This bass has a huge range of tonal possibilities. It can sound like a Stingray, Bass, or anything in between. Both the neck and the body were purchased from the Showcase. I had Warmoth do the blue dye job which is incredable and really shows off the maple top. The bass features a Bartolini Musicman style pickup, a Bartolini preamp, A WD 201 style bridge, Hipshot Ultra light tuner with a D-tuner. The bass is strung EADGC. It was a lot of fun to build as always. Great parts! Piotr Machalowski<br />This is my first Warmoth project and not the last. Both body and neck were purchased from the Showcase. The body is alder (beautifully finished in shoreline gold) and the neck is tinted maple with rosewood fingerboard and creamy blocks and binding. As you can see on the pictures - it looks very classic. As for the sound: long sustain, punchy, with heavy lows and mellow mids - singing in the upper positions, sounding close to P-Bass on the neck pickup. By the way, the pickups are the simpliest passive available, made by Schaller. It's a great instrument. Thank you. I used a 1-piece Korina Jazz Bass body that I bought from the Warmoth Custom Showcase. I bought the Warmoth Paudok P-Bass neck with Schaller vintage style tuning machines on ebay. The electronics are one 1975 Jazz Bass pickup and another later 70's DiMarzio Jazz Bass style pickups. I had a vintage style wiring harness set up for me. I also have a great bridge on there and I have jumbo sized frets on the neck. My tech teacher at school put the nice lacquer finish on. I played this bass at Kenny's Castaway's in Greenwich Village the day after completion. This bass rocks and it took place of my warwick streamer standard. Thanks for making such great parts. I have had lots of fun building mine and the parts from Warmoth are terrific. The bass guitar has an ash body with transparent burgundy stain. All of the hardware is black. Sounds great. The six string has gold hardware with a transparent turquoise finish over flame maple. I also did a slight burst with a darker blue on it. The photos don't do it justice. The logo is gold foil under the clear coat. It has Sperzel tuners, Wilkinson trem, active/passive pickups with coil splits and phase switch. This thing cranks. It can be mellow or rip your head off. On page 22 picture #3 is a one of a kind gold on gold Jazz bass built by Fender's custom shop in 1983. This one does not look exactly like that one but it's pretty close. I have over twenty year's experience repairing, rebuilding and doing just about everything that can be done to a stringed instrument. I have worked with many different types of bodies and necks over the years and Warmoth is beyond compare. I have a Yamaha TRB that sounds excellent, but just too modern. Increasingly my playing style required a bass that sounded vintage. To save money, I decided to build this Warmoth with my father. I did most of the research, as to what part, what pickup, etc. and he did the bulk of the construction. I ended up choosing Lindy Fralin pickups for their pre - CBS tone. Construction was fairly easy for those who are afraid to drill holes for the neck and pickups, etc. Nothing was overly frustrating and the end result was a beautiful replica of a 1962 Jazz Bass. Although the action still hasn't been perfected yet, it plays and sounds better than I would have believed. It sounds just like the stock basses and has all the modern improvements that a bass guitar should have nowadays. Thank you Warmoth for a great bass! I see lots of gigs for this bass (try this Saturday!) J. Todd Hurry<br />I started with a Warmoth walnut bass body ... then I put on a Warmoth vintage style prec neck with a repro 68 precision decal from Jason Smith (Doc Ranger on ebay- highly recommended!). The neck joint perfectly matched the neck. I was very happy as others that I have rebuilt have not had such nice joints. Schaller machines, a Gotoh bridge (altho a vintage may be put on), and pots wired with superior high conductive OFC and silver solder from YBA, a French hi-fi manufacturer (whom I work for!). Tung and teak oil finish for the body, and a french polish for the neck - very sleek. P-ups are top of the line passive Dimarzios. I foresee getting the push push pots from Dimarzio so I can do humbucking and single coil type sounds for both p-ups without drilling modifying the body. This bass is Schaller, Gotoh, Warmoth, Dimarzio and a whole lot of soul! Thanks to Warmoth for helping me make a perfect funk machine and thanks to my friend Perry the restorer! She is waaaarm and has sustain like I have never before heard. Sure, she is heavy, but she has fantastic unique sound qualities. She is already making lots of friends too - she is very seductive! Wes Watson<br />I am very happy with how this Bass turned out! This was my first venture into DIY bass guitar making, and I am very pleased. Everyone that has seen this Bass is amazed at how inexpensive, and great looking it turned out. It has the look of a Bass that would cost 3 or 4 times what I paid for it. To explain what I did: I used Tung oil and Minwax Wipe-on polyurethane. I did 8 coats of tung oil, with 0000 steel wool between coats, and 15 coats of the wipe on poly, again with 0000 steel wool between coats. It was alot of work but turned out great. After the final coat had cured, I again used light steel wool to give it a satin look. The body is black korina Bass, the neck is Goncalo, with an Ebony fretboard (all Warmoth). I added passive Bartolini Jazz pickups, and finished it with all Warmoth hardware. With the string through body bridge, this bass will sustain forever. The Neck is of Maple birdseye, which is so beautiful and the fingerboard is rosewood and the finish is vintage tint gloss wich fits really well with the white color of the body and the pegface. It just adds that custom look. <br/><br/>I put in Antiquity Pickups in and they rock! I chose all the hardware to be black, because that is just too cool. After I got this bass I´m finding it hard to play on the other two I have. Jacques Paulin<br />Here is my first warmoth project, consisting in a gloss black Dinky bass alder body and maple neck. The fingerboard is pau ferro which has a nice chocolate color. Parts choice and assebmbling have been done by JP and Fred from JPBASSES. JP recommended the use Nordstrand NJ4-SE pickups along with an E-Pro (John East) BTB-01 preamp with added passive tone control. The result is simply awesome! This bass looks really beautifull and soundwise, it ranges from Jaco's smoothy tones to modern bright sounds. The incredible dynamics of my Dinky through my EBS amplification makes a terrific combo!
